I have been very happy with my flagpole antenna, in just a few months I was able to work DXCC on FT8.  My neighbors are none the wiser that the flagpole is actually an antenna. In fact, my next-door neighbor often talks about how much she enjoys "our flagpole" and seeing the American Flag flying every day!

I opted to use a manual tuner in the shack so that I could run the full legal limit

The antenna tunes readily for 10 through 40 meters. 6, 80, and 160 meters are a bit more challenging for my tuner. I opted to use a manual tuner in the shack so that I could run the full legal limit which the antenna handles with ease.

I have installed the antenna at the rear of my house (back yard) rather than the front yard like most flagpoles as I believe more people can enjoy the sight of a flag flying from the lake we live on versus the few that would be able to see the flag from the front yard.

I went to my Dentron MT-2000A and was able to tune 6 – 160 as I said 6, 80, and 160 are pretty touchy but I really didn’t expect 6 to be easy with a tuner designed for HF.  I can get good matches on 80 but my contacts have been limited. 160 I haven’t really tried other than to load up the antenna.

Update: I have since moved to a Heathkit SA-2040 tuner as I like the roller inductor much better than the Dentron design (tapped coil) and find I get very good matches on 10 – 80 with that tuner.

The best part is how much my *non-ham neighbor likes** seeing the flag!*

I still believe the best part of the review is how much my non-ham neighbor likes the flagpole and seeing the flag. In fact, I just worked JT1CO (Mongolia) yesterday on 15 meters.

My WAS and DXCC count using my flagpole antenna are 52 new countries confirmed mixed-mode (will bring me to 202 when I submit for credit), 133 countries confirmed on FT8,  WAS on FT8, and 3 bands down for 5-Band WAS on FT8.  All of these contacts are using the Greyline Flagpole Antenna.

Beautiful shot by the lake. Congrats on the location and that the neighbors love your Flagpole too! So, 133 new countries on FT8 and 52 new countries mixed-mode (SSB and CW), with a tuner in the shack! Seems like a great set of highlights to me. Ham radio is indeed fun at Tim's lake house QTH.

Want to work the world, just like Tim?

He purchased The 24' DX Flagpole Antenna which is popular for HOA and Real DX ham radio operations. Consider ordering one for your front yard, or backyard too!

Warning: We've had radio ops order this for the backyard, commence to dig a hole, and pour the concrete to then hear the wife say, "Honey, that looks very nice, let's install it in the front yard." You'll end up moving it to the front yard just like the other guys have. Ham Radio is fun again!

"So pretty she let me install it in the garden!"

Have you ever heard anyone (your XYL or family!) say this about a ham radio antenna before? We think not. You're welcome!
